Summary:
How do you defy destiny?

Helen Hamilton has spent her entire sixteen years trying to hide how different she is—no easy task on an island as small and sheltered as Nantucket. And it's getting harder. Nightmares of a desperate desert journey have Helen waking parched, only to find her sheets damaged by dirt and dust. At school she's haunted by hallucinations of three women weeping tears of blood . . . and when Helen first crosses paths with Lucas Delos, she has no way of knowing they're destined to play the leading roles in a tragedy the Fates insist on repeating throughout history.

As Helen unlocks the secrets of her ancestry, she realizes that some myths are more than just legend. But even demigod powers might not be enough to defy the forces that are both drawing her and Lucas together—and trying to tear them apart.

 Review:

If you’ve read this blog for any length of time you know I love Greek mythology! And while this is not directly mythology, there are currents of it throughout the entire plot.

The first thing I loved about this book was the love story. It was not your typical paranormal YA love story and I really appreciated that. It like REAL relationships took some time to develop (i.e. it wasn’t instantaneous or a love triangle) so I really liked that.

Another thing I really liked were all the characters. Not just the main ones but almost EVERY character introduced was important in some way. They didn’t just disappear or exist just to move one small part of the plot along. I especially liked all of the Delos family. Each one had an important role and very different personalities.

This book was filled with twists and turns, red herrings, and “wow I never would have guessed” moments! All these things kept me interested and hooked for the entire book! A good read and an amazing debut!
